A Look Into My Feed: The Accounts That Inspire Each Piece of My Heart

A Look Into My Feed: The Accounts That Inspire Each Piece of My Heart

Instagram has transformed itself from serving just as a social media platform between friends and family, into functioning as a full-on marketplace for every industry, person, and profession. Only some of the roles it has taken on include art gallery, shopping mall, health and wellness discussion board, model portfolio, magazine, cookbook, and countless others. For me, Instagram has changed over the years in terms of how I use it to relate to others and gather inspiration.

It is now a commonly held belief that someone’s “feed” is actually very telling of what type of person they are in real life. One’s feed shows what they value, who they look up to, what they are interested in, and how they express themselves. Since one of my goals in this journal is to open up and share exactly those things I listed above and more, I thought maybe by telling you many of the accounts that I keep up with and hold dear on a daily basis, you might better understand where my feelings, thoughts, and words in my writing are coming from or what they are shaped by. I decided that I will share these accounts with you based on the category of life that they influence me in the most. These accounts help me to stay stimulated, up to date, sane, and knowledgable. I hope they can help you to do the same! First up, mental health.

For a handful of the lifestyle and fashion accounts I follow, I wanted to give some insight on what each brand embodies and what they offer within their industries. Each account has a unique personality which I draw from and identify with differently at different points in my life.

Home, Lifestyle, & Design:

  1. Martha Stewart, Instagram: marthastewart

Martha Stewart is the definition of cookie cutter, impeccable taste and execution in all things home, dining, entertaining, decorating, crafting, the list never ends-ing. The brand aims to be extremely refined yet relatable, which it accomplishes by making everything useful for the housemother of two throwing a birthday party just as much as the business mogul hosting a corporate Christmas dinner.

  2. Jonathan Adler, Instagram: jonathanadler

Jonathan Adler is a very vibrant and playful brand that focuses more on statement pieces that bring bold, graphic, and bright to any space. They have lots of art alongside their uniquely shaped furniture and decor. Walking into their shops is like walking into a high end playroom.

  3. Ralph Lauren, Instagram: ralphlauren

Ralph Lauren is the picture of a well established country club. It is every jewel tone you could imagine in rich textures like velvet and silk. It’s a perfectly cut suit pant, leather wallet, and ornate mirror on the wall. Their brand has many offshoots that cater to different parts of the goods they make and the audiences they cater to. i.e. Polo Ralph Lauren, Ralph Lauren Home, etc.

  4. Darcy Miller, Instagram: darcymiller

Darcy Miller is a new follow for me but everything I didn’t know I was missing. Her designs and illustrations are very childlike and colorful but she uses them in ways that are perfectly executed for all occasions, extravagant celebrations to small gatherings. They are kitschy and simple. Darcy was originally a founding editor of Martha Stewart Weddings and now has taken on her own brand.

  5. Papier, Instagram: papier

Cards, prints, and paper goods have always been something special to me. Papier is one of the industry standards for this space and their posts always remind me of little joys. Their account is extremely relevant to my line of work but also constantly makes me think of others in my life who I could imagine giving those cards to. It is a creatively stimulating and emotionally fufilling follow.

Style & Fashion:

  1. Julia Engel (GalMeetsGlam), Instagram: juliahengel

Julia is the creator of the popular blog and now apparel brand, Gal Meets Glam. Her style is the quintessential picture of classic femininity characterized by all pastels, ruffles, pearls, florals, and immaculate finishes. She is based in Charleston, SC, the perfect place to match her picket fence aesthetic. Everything she features is beautiful, gentle and girly. She just recently had a baby, Clementine, and it definitely makes following her even cuter!

  2. Helen Owen, Instagram: helenowen

I can honestly say I think Helen Owen is one of the most beautiful people on the planet. She has a very natural and effortless look to her hair and makeup, is always radiantly glowing with dewey skin and tan skin, wears a mixture of feminine and strong, masculine pieces, and travels to the most beautiful places on earth. She inspires adventure, comfort, and light.

  3. Love Shack Fancy, Instagram: loveshackfancy

This is a brand that I only recently discovered but have fallen head over heels in love with!! It is like walking into a little Parisian girls dress up box and I am all here for it. Airy fabrics with layers and layers of ruffles, flounces, lace, florals, pastels and linen. These clothes are made to be styles in any way you want with no rules or regulations. They’re for fun and beautiful. Ugh Im in love.

  4. Danielle Bernstien, Instagram: weworewhat

Danielle is the classic fashion blogger. In all the right ways. She walks you through her styling process and usually goes for pieces that are very functional yet amazingly fabulous. She really is on trend with structure, pairing and experimenting but makes things useful for any audience. I’d say she has a more clean sense of style that utilizes different shapes and accessories to adorn her well made pieces.

  5. Mary Ralph Lawson, Instagram: mralphlawson

Mary Ralph Lawson is someone you might even personally know if you’re an Austin native haha. She is my age and has a twin who is also an influencer, Lyle Lawson. Mary Ralph went to school at Pepperdine in Malibu and has a brand built on the beach, health, positivity, the simple things, and super girly, vibrant colored, yet chill style choices. She is always making over the top pieces look so relaxed. I envy this! Cutest attention to detail too.
